Frequently Asked Questions
The practical stuff — answered plainly.
All questions are valid questions. Here's exactly what to expect so there are no surprises when you get started.
GENERAL-
If you're asking that question, it probably is. Most people wait longer than they need to — until things feel unbearable enough to justify it. But therapy isn't just for crisis mode. It's for anyone who feels stuck, overwhelmed, or like they keep running into the same walls. You don't need to have hit rock bottom to deserve support.

Honestly? A lot of talking and very little pressure. The first session is really just us getting to know each other — what's going on, what you're hoping for, and whether this feels like a good fit. There's no homework, no big revelations required. Think of it less like a test and more like a first conversation that actually matters. I'll ask questions, you'll answer what feels comfortable, and we'll start figuring out where to go from there.
-
That's more common than you'd think — and it's worth saying out loud, because it matters. A bad therapy experience doesn't mean therapy doesn't work; it often just means it wasn't the right fit. Therapeutic relationship is one of the biggest factors in whether therapy actually helps, and it's something I take seriously. You're always welcome to tell me what hasn't worked before — that information is genuinely useful, not a red flag.
LOGISTICAL-
Simpler than it sounds. Sessions are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform — all you need is a private space, a decent internet connection, and yourself. No commute, no waiting room, no parking. A lot of clients actually find it easier to open up from the comfort of their own space. In-person sessions are something I'm working toward offering in the future, so stay tuned if that's your preference.
-
Yes — with a few specific, legally required exceptions (situations involving imminent risk of harm or certain reports involving minors). Outside of those, what you say in session stays in session. We'll go over the details together during our first meeting so you know exactly where the lines are before we dive in.

Life happens — I get it. Here's how it works:
Cancel 24+ hours before your session — no charge, no questions asked.
Cancel less than 24 hours before your session — a $100 late cancellation fee applies. If it happens, I'll always try to offer you an alternative appointment that same week, if I have a slot available, so you can avoid having to pay for a session you did not have. And as an added bonus, I always offer one “freebie” per calendar year for a no show/late cancellation incident to help.
PAYMENT-
Yes — I'm currently in-network with the following providers. If your plan is listed, your sessions will be billed directly through your insurance. Your out-of-pocket cost will depend on your specific plan, copay, and deductible.
Aetna
Baylor Scott & White
Blue Cross Blue Shield
Cigna / Evernorth
United Healthcare / Optum

Yes. If you have an Employee Assistance Program through your employer, you may be able to use those benefits for sessions. Just let me know when scheduling your intake appointment and I'll verify your eligibility and benefits before we get started.

Yes — and more people choose this route than you might think. Paying out of pocket means no insurance company involved in your care, more flexibility in how we structure sessions, and no diagnosis required for coverage. Here's what that looks like:
50 MINUTES
$165
Individual, couples, or family — standard session length
80 MINUTES
$220
Extended session — great for relational sessions, deeper dives or EMDR processing work
Default sessions are 60 minutes when booked through insurance. 45-minute sessions are available upon request if that works better for your schedule or needs.
